DESPP: Higher European Diploma in Physical Preparation
Presentation
Universities and schools of sports established together Excellence training addressing top physical trainers in team and individual sports. This training relies on university competences and at the same time on those of top practitioners. Antonine University dispenses this program in Lebanon and in the Middle East in partnership with Claude Bernard University Lyon 1(France). Lebanese and foreign teachers and professionals from the following universities assure the training process in question:
- La Scuola Universitaria Interfacolta in Scienze Motorie-University of Turin (Italy)
- University of Lausanne-Institute of Sports Sciences and Physical Education (Switzerland)
- Free University of Brussels-Higher Institute of Physical Education and Physiotherapy (Belgium)
The purpose of the training process is to apprehend and to go deeper into knowledge and real problems of daily exercises the physical trainer practices, resulting in professionalization as a physical trainer, a post of a high demand nowadays by federations and sports milieu in schools and universities.
Double Diploma
Thanks to the confidence of European partners in the expertise of Antonine University, the training of physical preparation is approved by 2 diplomas:
- A higher European diploma awarded by Claude Bernard University Lyon 1(France), which runs the consortium of associate European universities.
- A Lebanese European university diploma awarded by Antonine University.
Therefore, the student enrolled in the physical preparation receives two student cards: the first is from Antonine University and the second from Claude Bernard University Lyon 1 after accomplishing simultaneously the 2 enrollment procedures in the universities in question.
Authentication
The reference language is French (used in education and in documents).
Candidates have the right to write their thesis and tests in one of the three following languages: French, English or Italian. The 2 diplomas are authenticated through:
- The achievement of internship thesis (coef.1)
- The attendance of one’s internship thesis (coef.1)
- The evaluation of practical skills (coef.1)
- The appropriation of general and specific knowledge by a 3 hour- written test
For the diplomas to be authenticated, the candidate must have the general average without a disqualifying grade, which is 7, in one of the 4 mentioned tests.
According to university rules, candidates are disposed to do 2 exam sessions in a training year. The candidate retains the advantage of acquired grades. He has the right to repeat the tests in which he didn’t get the average.
Regularity is obligatory. Regularity and contacts with sports chiefs chosen condition having the permission to apply for different authentications.
Work experience internship: the level of intervention must permit, practically, the treatment of physical preparation problems and must be approved by the chiefs of each sports game.
The student not satisfied with the conditions of the evaluation shall be given the permission to sit again for the exam during the following year of training, by assuming the cost of a new registration in the university as well as that of his training on a prorata basis of his participation.

Optional seminar:
Theme:
According to opportunities, one or several optional seminars could be suggested during the academic year with a limited number of participants.
A financial contribution could be needed in the occasion of these events.
On this account, some seminars were already organized in the past years in a training camp consisting of Italian professional clubs and in the national training center of Italian alpine skiing.
Internship
Work experience internship:
It’s a practical work experience internship of a coach or a physical trainer.
The objective of internship is:
* To permit the acquisition of skills
* Methodological competencies for the conception and then the evaluation of sessions or the situation of teaching, and
*Activity skills for the organization, management and regulation of sessions and situations.
* These skills will be evaluated during the specific test.
Practical modalities:
It’s a minimum period of 175-hour internship throughout the academic year. This internship might be from the beginning till the end of the year or might be divided into more intensive grouped periods.
The student might hold either a full responsibility of a team or an athlete, or might be the assistant of a head coach.
The level of athletes:
It’s not necessarily an internship with high skilled players, but with players whose characteristics (level of game, level of competition, ages, and conditions of coaching…) enable them to tackle problems of “physical preparation” during practical sessions.
Conditions of enrollment
- The candidate must hold a Lebanese baccalaureate degree or any other officially equivalent diploma.
- The training process is open to all those who hold a university bachelor’s degree.
- It is advised that the candidate have knowledge of:
- The energy production systems
- The common methods of body building
- The muscular functioning in body building and stretching exercises
- Computers
Thinking will be based on deep knowledge in all the fields of the chosen sport.
