A delegation from the University of California visits the Antonine University
The Antonine University organized a meeting with representatives from the University of California, on its campus at Hadath- Baabda. An outline agreement was discussed, that enables the Antonine students to get an English degree from the University of California.
Mrs. Mary Kay Harrington, coordinator of the language section at the University of California attended the meeting. Were also present Maggy Teen and Edith Bitar from the American embassy in Beirut; Brian Prescott Dessy, Nabila Harati, stood for the Lebanese American University, and Cynthia Eid, Head of Languages department.
In his welcome speech, Reverend Father Louis Rohban, President of the University, stressed the importance of bilateral agreements with foreign universities including the USA. The Secretary General, Father Fady Fadel, pinpointed that giving the Antonine students a chance of enrolling at post graduate courses in prestigious foreign universities, is a major objective in the university strategy. He then added that building the students’ linguistic capital is a prerequisite to achieve this goal.
Father Fadel, also explained that the outline agreement will eventually stipulate that experts and research papers will be exchanged between both parties. Relations will be strengthened mainly in the fields of ITC engineering, physical education and nursing.
It is worth mentioning that, administrators from the Antonine University will fly to California next month to pursue the discussions and the modus operandi of the bilateral agreement; and perhaps explore the possibilities of other fields of specialty provided by the University of California.
